  Golfam KHAYAM's personal language described by I CARE IF YOU LISTEN  " has gorgeous moments of introspection, harmonics, and light flourishes melding...."

She has evolved into an international career as a composer and improviser. This career reflects her unique musical language through the integration of her native musical elements within a contemporary experimental musical framework.

Her recent album “Narrante” published by ECM RECORDS which has been acclaimed worldwide is released with the prestigious German record label . “Narrante” had first round Grammy nomination in 2016, was also selected music and broadcast of international media  including NPR ”songs we love”, Espace 2Danish Cultural Radio,BBC Radio 3, and Elbphilharmonie . Her later recording with New Focus Recordings as a "Women Composer Project' was acclaimed worldwide and was nominated for the first round Grammy 2018 as well. 

Khayam has appeared extensively as performer, composer, and her music is being performed worldwide, spreading her musical message in various projects.

She has so far written for prestigious performers and ensembles as commissions, the recent projects partly include for Duo Noir (Night Triptych), Stephan Schmidt (song cycles based on Omar Khayyam poems), William Kanengiser ( Diaspora project) , Copenhagen Ensemble (paintings - to children of war on earth or in sky), Ensemble 21(Concerto for guitar and orchestra), HEM geneva chamber players (Improvisation), Isabel Villanueva (Duochrome). 


Golfam Khayam is born in Iran in a family of active artists in Tehran, began her musical studies at the age of seven with piano and a year later with classical guitar. During her early classical musical studies, she had parallel education of Persian music with Setar. 

She holds “Master of Music” from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati (USA). She continued her studies at the HEMGE (Switzerland) with her tutor Dusan Bogdanovic, parallel studies of composition and orchestration with Nicolas Bolens, Victor Cordero, Marc-André Rappaz during which she acquired the degree of Interprétation Specialisée Solist. She moved on with composition studies and acquired the degree of Master of Performer-Composer. 

She continued with compositional studies in a fellowship where she completed the program at Geneva University. 

Winner of numerous competitions, scholarships, and prizes. She has been named as the selected composer at the International Music Council, Rostrum of composers in the "Windows on the World" category in 2016 based in Paris. Winner of Residency in Festival Aix en Provence. Also HES-SO fellowship award, College-Conservatory of Music scholarship award. She has been also active in giving workshops in “composition and improvisation” as guest lecturer. This includes Aarhus Royal Academy, Copenhagen Royal Music University, Geneva University, Luzern Music University, Art University, and Tehran University.
